HDR techniques allowed this photograph.  By using High Dynamic Range you can capture more ranges of the colors that are being displayed.  You will take multiple exposures and then combine them into 1 single raw image.  Once this file is created, you then work up the file to pull out the best colors.  This photograph featured an approaching storm over Pinnacle Mounting state Park.  I was standing on a nearby overlook and watched as the storm materialized and then started moving towards the mountain.  The sun was still pretty high in the sky and added an wonderful effect to the overall image.  I loved the way you could see several large thunderheads lining up in the distance.
