03/01/10 Photograph of the Day–Springtime at the Washing Machine

This is actually the right side of the Washing Machine, the main drop is barely visible to the left of the large rock. By far the most intimidating single drop of Cossatot Falls, the Washing machine still strikes me with awe every time I view it. This view was taken last spring at around 160cfs which is enough water to kayak or canoe the rapids. The water in the lower portion of the photograph has a few blown highlights that are corrected in the final print. The red tone to the rocks is normal and the intensity of the color depends on the time of day and how much sunlight is hitting the rocks.
